20 SEPTEMBER 2008Accurate feeder fishing
Kieron Rich explains how accurate casting when feeder fishing can make all the difference to your catch rate.
Being able to accurately cast to one spot in the swim when feeder fishing, can determine how quickly and how many bites you get. Building a tight area of bait on the same spot helps concentrate any fish in the swim and can really get the fish competing and churning up the water. Accurate casting is also important when fishing tight to fish-holding features, such as far bank or island margins.
Follow the picture guide below to ensure you can accurately cast to the same spot each time. I follow the exact same sequence on each cast which helps gain a rhythm.

Step 1 - When setting up at the start of the session try to position yourself in line with the spot you want to cast to.

Step 2 - Make a few trial casts and clip your line in the line clip on your reel so that exactly the right amount of line is free to come off the spool as the rig falls towards the spot.

Step 3 - Get ready for the cast, line up the rod carefully and aim to cast with just enough force to gently hit the line clip. Too hard will create a

Step 4 - Hold the rod high and in exactly the same position on each cast as the rig is moving through the air.

Step 5 - As you feel the line tighten to the clip, allow the rod to follow through, so the rig hits the water, as the rod drops.

The end result - a nice net of fish from a short session, all caught fishing tight against a bed of reeds.
