Fish were caught steadily during the day and it was great to see them all taking it very seriously but having a great time as well. There were plenty of Stewards on hand to measure the fish and also, plenty of parents, relatives and friends to offer support. The match finished at 1-00 p.m. and it was time to head back Northfield Club and an anxious wait whilst the organisers checked the return slips and sorted out the results.
The results were:
1st Taylor Fisk, 6 fish, 220cm
2nd Harvey Butler, 5 fish, 97cm
3rd Josh Wilson, 3 fish, 96cm
The under 11 winner was Blake Banks with 4 fish, 89cm and the biggest fish prize went to Taylor Fisk with a 60cm dogfish. All in all a brilliant day was had by all and they all vowed to be back next year, except for Taylor Fisk who will be too old.
Sunday 18th November 2018
It’s time for the Daiwa Open Match. 448 anglers, including juniors and ladies, fished the match spread out from Bridlington North Beach all the way down the River Humber to Old Hall. The wind was a little fresher, but most of the anglers were well experienced in the conditions that they would face, so expectations of some good weights were high and so it proved. 10:00 am the match commenced and soon a steady stream of reports were coming through to the Headquarters at the Northfield Club.
The results were:
1st John Harrison; 2.53kg (Cod) winning £2000
2nd Tony Whitehand; 2.515kg (Cod) winning £1000
3rd Taylor Fisk; 2.445kg (Cod) winning £500
4th Mark Tonge; 2.050kg (Cod) winning £250
5th Harvey Butler; 2.045kg (Cod) winning £150
Juniors
1st Taylor Fisk; 2.53kg (Cod) winning £50, plus a rod a reel and a tackle box.
2nd Harvey Butler; 2.045kg (Cod) winning a rod and tackle box.
3rd Alfie Costello; 1.125kg (Cod) winning a reel
Biggest Whiting; Gary Hutson, 0.62kg, winning £50
Biggest Flatfish; Matt Hope, winning £50
Overall a fantastic weekend as usual, congratulations to all who fished and the winners who went home with more than they came with. I am sure that you will have noticed that there are a couple of names that have appeared in all the above results. Taylor Fisk and Harvey Butler, they have done fantastically well this weekend and should feel very proud of their efforts, certainly, all of us at the Commercial Sea Angling Club are very proud of their achievements. Thanks go out to John Stephenson for allowing us to use his club for our events, to all the members of the Commercial Sea Angling Club that helped with the Stewarding and finally we must thank our sponsors Daiwa Sports who have supported us for over 30 years, long may it continue.

Footnote from Daiwa Consultant Brian Skoyles
For several years I have represented Daiwa at the Saturday junior event and it is a pleasure to do so. Always well organised and well attended, what makes it special is the enthusiasm. There is a wide age range taking part and a corresponding wide range of abilities, but it doesn’t matter, everyone really enjoys the taking part. Over the years we’ve had flat calm conditions to crashing seas, but the smiles are always there, the excitement when a fish comes out of the surf and the tension waiting for the results. It’s a fantastic stepping stone to more serious involvement in the sport we love. Just look at this year’s results, where two of the winning juniors on the Saturday, also did brilliantly in the senior event the next day. So that’s it for another year, thank you to the members of “The Commercial Sea Angling Club” for organising the event and to all the parents, relatives and friend who turned up to help and support … Congratulations to all involved!
