Daiwa Manton's first 40lb carp

After years of hard work Manton fishery has produced it's first 40lb carp...

"Daiwa UK has been sponsoring the Manton fishery at Kirton Lindsey in Lincolnshire for almost all of its 19 years existence" explained fishery manager Neville Fickling.

"During that time the stocking policy has been based on using strictly UK fish with a combination of buying from local sources and growing on. This is in an age where instant 40lb carp; often from mysterious dare I say sometimes foreign sources have changed the face (not for the better) of modern carp fishing."

"Our little bit of history came in August when Grimsby carper Charlie Hawker caught the fisheries first 40lb carp. The fish which is called Arnie weighed in at 41lb 04oz and he also had a 36lber shortly afterwards. Arnie has grown from a once unknown fish of probably mid to upper doubles to be king or queen of the fishery."

The fishery comprises two lakes, the Old Lake where Arnie lives along with home grown catfish to 50lb. The New Lake is 34 acres and has around 400 carp to 33lb, plus a few grass carp to low thirties.

Membership for both lakes is by application and there is a waiting list at present. For details email The Tackle Shop, Bridge Road, Gainsborough. DN21 1JU on thetackleshop@btconnect.com or ring 01427 679434.

Daiwa Sales & Marketing Director Robin Morley added "Daiwa are proud to be associated with a successful carp fishery run on sustainable lines and look forward to many more years working together."
