Grand finale

After months of being pretty much unfishable due to flooding, the last week of the river season ended in style for Martyn Skoyles, with a number of chub to just under 6lb.

It’s been a really strange winter this year in terms of my river fishing. Having initially started with a few nice fish from the rivers close to my Oxfordshire home in December, the flooding then hit hard and I couldn’t get anywhere near the river let alone fish.

However conditions for my last couple of trips of the season turned out to be fantastic, with mild weather and both the Thames and Cherwell back in their banks but still carrying a bit of colour.

The fish responded in style, and roving between swims with breadflake and a feeder full of liquidised bread produced more than 10 chub as well as a bonus tench of 5lb 2oz and a bream.
