“I've have been all over the place this year and enjoyed some fantastic fishing but my latest adventure caps them all. I’d been invited to a secret location in the very north of Shetland just before a four-day event up there. Well am I glad I took the offer up because the fishing was the best that I have ever experienced in my whole life... better than Iceland... better than Norway... and better than Faroe too.”
“Without pictures you just would not believe that six anglers could catch over 2 tons of fish in a little over four hours before collapsing. We had constant treble hook-ups of cod to 34lb, coalfish to 29lb, ling to 37lb and big pollack too. We wrecked gear for fun as regular 70-plus-lb hauls of angry coalfish burnt the backside out of reel clutches and smashed even powerful rods all over the place at 100mph! Treble shots of giant ling were common on fish baits, while the biggest, toughest industrial lures (14/0) were the things for everything else.”
“All of this in UK waters too!! And perhaps the scariest thing here is that the area is a stone's throw from the shore! I have a provisional week-long re-visit booked for Feb/March when the 'BIG' spawning beasts are around, but Shetland is hugely weather dependent, and it may be that this trip has to be rescheduled several times at short notice because of the weather.”
